Privacy Policy

1.Who we are

Debut ("Debut", "we", "us") is a mobile app operated by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], registered in [COUNTRY / STATE OF REGISTRATION] with registered address [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. Where data protection law applies to you, we are the data controller of the information described here.

2.What we collect

When you sign up

• Your email address and a password. The password is stored only as a cryptographic hash. We cannot read it, and neither can anyone else.
• Your date of birth. We hold the date itself rather than a calculated age, so it stays correct as you get older. It is used to confirm you are 18 or over.

When you set up your profile

• Your first name. Just the first name. We never ask for a surname.
• Your gender, and the city you are in, both chosen from a short fixed list.

When you create a date

• The venue name you type, the kind of date it is, the area from our list, what you plan to spend, when it is, and the kind of person you would like to be matched with.

As you use the app

• Messages you send in a chat, and when you sent them.
• Ratings you leave after a date.
• Reports you file and people you block. See section 6.
• A record that you passed on a date, which stops us offering you dates from that same person for 14 days.
• Sign-in records, kept by our infrastructure provider so you stay logged in. These include your IP address, your device's browser identifier, and the times you signed in.

3.What we do not collect

This list is deliberate. Each of these is absent from the app, not merely switched off:

• No location of any kind. Debut does not ask for location permission and holds no coordinates. Areas are names from a short list we wrote. Nothing is measured from where you are.
• No photographs. There is no profile photo in this version of the app.
• No phone number. We never ask for one.
• No advertising, and no analytics. There is no advertising network, no analytics toolkit, no crash-reporting service and no tracking of you across other companies' apps or websites. We do not sell or rent your information to anyone, for any purpose.
• No payment details. You pay the venue directly, exactly as you would on any other evening out.
• No contacts, calendar, microphone or camera access.

4.How we use it

• To create your account and keep you signed in.
• To confirm you are 18 or over.
• To find one person for a date you created, by comparing city, the kind of person each of you asked for, and whether either of you is already busy with another date.
• To run the chat that opens once your date is accepted.
• To record ratings after a date.
• To review reports and act on blocks, and to keep people who have blocked each other apart.
• To meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

5.What other people can see

Debut shows other users almost nothing about you.

• Someone offered your date sees the date itself: the venue, the area, the time, the budget and the kind of date. They do not see your name at that point.
• Once a date is accepted and the chat opens, each of you can see the other's first name. That is all. Your email, date of birth, gender, city, other dates and ratings are never shown to another user.
• Ratings are private to whoever wrote them. The person you rated cannot see the rating you gave them. You can see your own overall average, calculated from the ratings other people left about you, but not the individual scores, and not who gave them. Be aware that if only one person has ever rated you, your average is that one rating.
• Blocking is silent. If you block someone they are not told, and they cannot find out.

6.Reports, and what we keep from them

This section describes information we keep for longer than you might expect, so we want to be direct about it.

When you report a person or a message, we record who filed it, who it is about, the reason you chose, the time, and any extra detail you type.

• If you report a message, we keep a copy of that message's text. We take the copy at the moment you report it, and it stays on the report. This means it outlives the chat. If the date is later deleted, or the conversation disappears, the copied text remains so the report can still be reviewed. Without it, a report would point at content that no longer exists and could not be acted on.
• Anything you type into the "details" box leaves our database. When a report is filed we email ourselves an alert so it can be looked at quickly, and that alert includes your free-text details. It is sent through our email provider (see section 7). Please do not put anything in that box you would not want handled by an email service. The reported message text is deliberately not included in that email. It stays in our database.

Reports are read by us, not by other users. Nobody using Debut, including the person who filed a report, can read reports through the app.

7.Who else receives your information

Four companies, and no others:

• Supabase hosts our database, accounts and chat. Everything described in section 2 is stored there, on our instructions.
• Resend is our email provider. It receives only the moderation alert described in section 6: the reason, whether it concerns a user or a message, the time, the report's reference number, the account identifiers of both people, and your free-text details. Message content is deliberately excluded.
• Expo is the toolkit we use to build and update the app.
• Apple distributes the app through the App Store.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is genuinely necessary to investigate a serious safety incident or to defend a legal claim. If our business were ever sold, we would tell you before your information became subject to a different policy.

8.How long we keep things

• Your account and profile: for as long as your account exists.
• Dates, matches, messages and ratings: until the date they belong to is deleted, or until either person involved deletes their account. Note that a chat closes 24 hours after the date, but closing it is not the same as deleting it.
• Reports, including any copied message text: until either the person who filed the report or the person it is about deletes their account. At that point the report is deleted with them.
• Blocks: for as long as both accounts exist. A block does not expire.
• A record that you passed on a date: it stops affecting matching after 14 days, and is deleted when either account is deleted.

9.Deleting your account

You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from Settings → Delete Account in the app. There are two confirmation steps, and then it is done immediately. You do not have to email anyone to ask.

Deleting removes all of it:

• Your login and both records of your date of birth: the one on your account and the one on your profile.
• Your profile, and every date you created.
• Every match on those dates, and all messages and ratings attached to them.
• Blocks you made and blocks made against you, and your pass records.
• Reports you filed, and reports filed about you, including any copied message text.

One consequence you should know about. A date belongs to the person who created it. If you created a date that someone else accepted, deleting your account removes that date, and the other person's chat with you disappears too.

Deletion is permanent and there is no undo. Copies may persist briefly in routine encrypted backups held by our infrastructure provider before those expire.

10.Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Get a copy of the information we hold about you;
• Correct anything inaccurate;
• Delete your information, which you can do yourself, in the app;
• Object to or restrict some processing;
• Receive your information in a portable format; and
• Not be treated differently for exercising any of these.

Email hello@debutdate.app and we will respond within the time the law allows, normally within one month. If you are in the UK or EEA and unhappy with our response, you can complain to your local supervisory authority, though we would like the chance to put it right first.

11.Security

Accounts, database access and chat run on Supabase. Every table enforces row-level security, so the database itself, not just the app, decides what each person is allowed to read. Information is encrypted in transit and at rest, and passwords are stored only as hashes.

No service can promise perfect security. If a breach affects your information and creates a risk to you, we will tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.

12.18 and over only

Debut is for adults. Your date of birth is checked before an account is created, and anyone under 18 is refused at that point. The same rule is enforced by our database, so it holds even if the app is bypassed.

We do not knowingly hold information about anyone under 18. If we learn that someone underage has an account we delete it and everything attached to it. If you think a minor is using Debut, tell us at hello@debutdate.app.

13.Changes to this policy

Debut is early, and the app will grow. If we add anything that changes what we collect, whether photographs, notifications or anything else, we will update this page and change the "last updated" date, and we will tell you in the app or by email before a material change takes effect.
